Date: June 7, 2025 Location: Roorkee, Uttarakhand Cantonment area strengthens green initiative with support from Roorkee Cantonment Board A high-level team from "Environment, Forest and Climate Change Promotion Council - India Unit" (MoEFCCPC-India) recently visited the Roorkee Cantonment area. The delegation included Major Dheer Singh, Shri Mihir Kumar, and Shri Pradeep Awasthi. The team was approached by the Roorkee Cantonment Board with a request to undertake tree plantation on defense land under the green initiative. - Shri Vishal Saraswat, Chief Executive Officer of Roorkee Cantonment Board, appreciated the council's work and assured full cooperation. He introduced his team members who will guide the entire tree plantation process. - Specific land parcels were identified for tree plantation, which were inspected by our team. - Soil samples were collected for testing, and suitable plant species were discussed based on climate and soil conditions. - A detailed plan was agreed upon to ensure plant security, monitoring, and maintenance. On this occasion, Shri Rahul Dwivedi, National Chairman of MoEFCCPC, said, "Institutional support gives sustainability to environmental initiatives. We are grateful to Roorkee Cantonment Board for their positive approach and cooperation." Major Dheer Singh informed that a similar effort will be made in Meerut Cantonment area, for which a meeting has been held with senior officials who have assured personal and institutional cooperation. This initiative is a significant step towards environmental conservation, biodiversity promotion, and the Green India campaign.
